Disappointed with these pants

    COMMENTS:

My previous gardening pants wore out and I wanted another pair with padded knees. I bought these and they fall down and are huge which makes the legs too long. The fabric is probably very durable but it feels slimy and my old cotton ones were much more comfortable. These are very hot feeling. I do like the fact that they are dirt repellent, but the fabric feels terrible and they don't fit. I would not want another pair of pants like these. Apparently I am right legged (my other gardening pants right knee wore out) and the knee pad in the right leg of these pants keeps falling out and I have to stop gardening and put it back.

I will exchange them for a smaller size before leaf season in Virginia, because they seem a bit big. I anticipate loving them for a long time once I get the size right. Duluth's quality is always superb.

          COMMENTS:

I had to return my order because the sizes run large. I called for help with sizing, and was encouraged to try one size smaller. I easily could have gone 2 full sizes smaller. The pants are sturdy and the material stands up to kneeling in the dirt, but they don't breathe and are hot. They are kind of noisy to walk in (like corduroy pants). I wish these breathed better so were cooler to wear working in the garden. I wish the sizes were more predictable or that there was not a fee for exchanging them for a different size.

          I like these pants, but...

          COMMENTS:

I own a large farm, and needed work pants that I can actually move around in (bending, walking, lifting, etc). I wore them this morning for moving 10' corral panels to make a new pasture area for my sheep and goats - these pants are more comfortable than 95% of the pants and jeans I've ever owned. I was able to do everything I needed to move the panels and get the pen set up.

Sizing - I wear a size 14 jeans, so ordered a 14 in these pants. As another reviewer commented, I can pull these off without unbuttoning. If you want a more form-fitting pant, maybe order a size down. I need room to move, so I'm happy with the extra space.

Less than impressed with the following:

Why is only a 31" inseam available (29" is an option, but was not available for purchase when I bought these)? I'm glad I know how to sew and hem a pair of pants, because I'm 5'4" and that length of pant is plain unsafe. I tried rolling them up a bit and hooking with the snap - the inside leg side unrolled and I about fell when I stepped on the unrolled edge. If you're going to have the legs roll up, put a snap on the outside *and* inside of the leg.

On the right leg in the cargo pocket, there is a strap with a small plastic carabiner (I'm assuming for hooking your key ring to or something). That's going to get cut off.

I can't comment to durability yet, but I bought these specifically because they are ripstop fabric. The fabric is lighter weight than what I am used to (mostly military BDU pants), so we'll see how they hold up to farm life. For what they cost, I hope the answer is positive.

My initial response is that these pants are good quality, roomy enough for me to work, but with a few annoyances (the biggest one being the lack of choice in inseam length) that I can remedy.

              COMMENTS:

This is my second review of these pants. My earlier review talked about how I was having to try on three sizes the pants ran so big. I am currently wearing a size 14 (this almost never happens), and truth be told, I am thinking of ordering a 12 to see how it fits. The 14 basically fits and is comfortable, but I can pull the pants off without undoing the waist, which makes me want to try the 12, though it might end up being too slim in the legs. That all said, the pants are fabulous put to the test. I wanted something that would hold up to dirt, mud, water, thorns, burrs, and getting tossed around, and that would protect me in the process. This is it. Best work pants ever. Easily three-season. Love all the pockets, the sturdiness is top rate and they seem 'skeeto-proof (yah!) . Haven't found them to be stiff - or my initial concern - too hot. Will have to listen for the swish someone mentioned, but since I use these almost exclusively for yard work and gardening - I don't care if they swish. At 5'6 I am going to have to have them hemmed though, the longer inseam was the only thing available, and while I like my pants long, these border on potential hazard, not to mention I'm sure I'll end up with frayed hems if I don't. I have two pair, the eggplant and the blue gray. Once I settle on the right size, I will probably buy a third. Love the quality of DT's clothes.
