A great pair of pants. The material is tough enough to resist rose thorns when I am pruning them, but classy enough to wear for casual occasions.

      COMMENTS:

These are great pants, are great for yard work and gardening, launder beautifully, and I've been very satisfied with them, except with the problem with the zipper not staying up. This is not a fit issue, they fit well, even a little roomy, the zipper just doesn't "lock" at the top. The fabric is a little heavy for summer wear, and I will probably be looking for a lighter-weight option for summer yard work.

      Tool pocket is too low

          COMMENTS:

I was ready to love these pants and order a second pair after making sure they fit correctly! They are very comfortable when first putting them on. But I find myself pulling them back up at the waist constantly as they sag down. I checked the sizing charts and measured before purchasing, but the waist is too big and they are not long enough. Also the fabric is very noisy when walking. Those things I can deal with.

My biggest disappointment is the location of the tool pockets. They are so low down on the leg that when I kneel down with tools in the pockets they poke me in the lower leg, get bumped out of the pockets, and end up on the ground. I will not be ordering a second pair and will continue to search for the perfect gardening pants.

            COMMENTS:

As an avid gardener and a volunteer with an urban tree planting and pruning non-profit, I have long been searching for pants that could handle the activity and the unpredictability of Washington DC weather. I *think* I've found them with these pants. As a curvy 5'2" I never EVER find pants that fit me--so it was like Christmas and my birthday and a snow day all wrapped together when the 29" fit like I'd designed them myself--and no gaping waistband. The secure waistband saves me from embarrassment and the fabric means I can handle the pouring-rain-to-blazing-sun that we get on any given day. Oddly the size 6 is pretty big on me--thinking about trying a size 4 but afraid they will be too snug.

As for other reviewers comments about the tool pocket location and the knee pad pocket orientation, those may come to irritate me in time. But for now I'm just so excited to not have to cuff my pants up a million times that I don't care.

            Warning about 31" inseams--they're NOT

              COMMENTS:

I'm disappointed to see Duluth hasn't yet updated its website on these pants--here's why. I ordered the 31" inseam and because I have a pair I bought last year, I could tell immediately that they were too short. Sure enough, the measuring tape confirmed it. The pair I bought last year, when stretched to full length, has a 31 1/2 inseam. These were 29 1/2. I called about a return and they offered to do a "quality check" on the replacement. Customer service called back to tell me that ALL OF THE PANTS in this lot that are marked 31" are coming out at 30". (Again, I got 29 1/2 measuring along the seam when pulled tight from waist to hem. Pants don't stretch that way when you're wearing them. You're looking at a good two inches, IMO.)

I see other reviews mentioning the 31" "seems" short. If that's you, make sure you measure and contact CS. You shouldn't have to pay $ to return pants that are mis-labeled.

I am 5' 10" ... they looked ridiculous on me. They also felt a little tighter in the waist than last year's, but they do have a little stretch and it's possible they also stretch out a bit once you've broken them in. (I'm a 16.)

I'm conflicted as to how many stars to give these pants and whether to "recommend" because other than this sizing issue on the pair I had to return and couldn't replace, I love the pair I bought last year. They are sturdy but don't feel super heavy, they have a little stretch, the articulated knees are awesome (I also have the knee pad inserts and they're great, too). I get them very dirty, but they clean so easily. So I picked three stars mostly to get folks' attention and warn them about this sizing issue!

Two weird things: The knee pads are inserted from the bottom of the pocket that holds them. It's really hard to get them in there while wearing the pants. Having the opening at the top of the knee pocket would make it easier. The other is that the snapped tab that holds them when you roll them up is placed a little lower than I'd like
